Is the $8 IKEA breakfast really the cheapest meal? Australians weigh in

In an era where the cost of living is soaring, and the price of a café breakfast can make your wallet weep, Australian families find solace in an unexpected place.

The concept of a cheap breakfast at a furniture store might seem odd at first, but IKEA has long been known for more than just its flat-pack furniture and maze-like stores.

The retailer’s food offerings, particularly its iconic Swedish meatballs, have garnered a following. Now, the breakfast menu is taking centre stage, with prices that seem almost too good to be true in today’s economy.

Australian foodie couple Christian and Akita have been vocal advocates of IKEA’s breakfast, calling it ‘incredible’ and ‘the cheapest breakfast in Australia.’

Their social media video showcasing the meal has attracted over 100,000 views, with many viewers expressing shock at the value for money.

Christian breaks it down in the video: ‘You’ve got bacon, sausages, eggs, beans and hash browns with mushrooms, but $8 for a big breakfast in today’s economy is so cheap.’

He explained that their family of four can dine for around $30, which would barely cover a single person’s meal at many cafés.

Cheree Lawrence, also known on social media as Oh So Busy Mum, shared her IKEA breakfast experience online. She praised the vegetarian option and highlighted the affordability of the medium breakfast with a membership.

Her post sparked a flurry of comments from people surprised by the existence of IKEA breakfasts and others who wanted to share their positive experiences.

The sentiment among the comments is clear: IKEA’s breakfast is affordable but also tasty and satisfying.

‘You get so much for the price that’s amazing,’ one commenter raved.

Another shopper noted, ‘For the price, we were very impressed. Had a lot worse for a lot more.’

Christian and Akita acknowledged that while IKEA’s breakfast may not compete with the gourmet offerings of high-end cafés, it’s a fraction of the price and a fair reflection of what you pay for.

‘It definitely doesn’t taste bad; it just is what it is,’ they said.

Beyond the traditional breakfast items, the couple also recommended the garlic bread add-on and praised the quality of the hash browns.
