If you’ve ever travelled to the United States (US) or Canada, you might have noticed something on the McDonald’s breakfast menu that’s been the envy of Macca’s lovers for years.
This sweet-and-savoury breakfast treat has been a staple overseas for over two decades, inspiring cravings and jealousy among Australian fans.
But now, the wait is finally over—this legendary menu item has landed Down Under, and the excitement is palpable!

The McGriddle is a breakfast sandwich that takes the classic McMuffin and gives it a delicious twist.
Instead of the usual English muffin, the McGriddle uses two soft, warm griddle cakes infused with the sweet taste of maple syrup.
Sandwiched between these pancakes, you’ll find your choice of fillings: Sausage, Sausage and Egg, Bacon and Egg, or you can even enjoy the griddle cakes.
It’s a combination that’s won hearts (and taste buds) across North America and Asia, and now it’s finally our turn to see what all the fuss is about.
The McGriddle is being trialled at select McDonald’s restaurants across New South Wales (NSW). It has already been spotted in Macquarie Centre, Kingsford, Sylvania, Croydon, and Haberfield.
If you’re in Sydney or nearby, you might be in luck! You may have to wait a little longer for those outside NSW, but if the trial goes well, there’s every chance we’ll see a nationwide rollout.
The McGriddle isn’t just another breakfast sandwich—it’s a cult favourite. Social media has exploded with excitement since news of its arrival.
One American living in Australia said, ‘This is the only item the US Maccas has that we don’t have that’s actually good.’
Others have shared their desperation to try it, with one user pleading, ‘Whoever lives in Sydney better buy them in BULK because I need them to release so I can finally try one.’
Foodies and content creators have also jumped on the bandwagon.
One social media personality described it as ‘like a McMuffin but with pancakes and maple syrup’.
At the same time, Sydney-based food blogger Adrian Widjy said his ‘prayer was answered’ when he finally got to try the McGriddle at home, after years of enjoying it in Japan and Hong Kong.
The McGriddle’s arrival taps into a growing trend for sweet-and-savoury breakfast options. Think bacon and maple syrup, or chicken and waffles—flavour combinations that might have seemed odd a generation ago, but are now beloved by foodies everywhere.
The McGriddle brings that magic to Macca’s menu, offering a comforting and indulgent breakfast.
At this stage, McDonald’s keeps its cards close to its chest, saying only that it’s ‘always looking for new ways to serve the perfect breakfast’ and that the McGriddle is being trialled in select NSW stores.
If the response so far is anything to go by, it’s hard to imagine the McGriddle won’t become a permanent fixture. After all, the demand is there, and the online buzz is only growing.
