Major recall issued after glass shards discovered in popular bottled drinks

Keeping a few of these drinks in the fridge or pantry is part of everyday life, especially as we look for options that support our well-being or simply offer a tasty treat.

If you enjoy trying new health drinks or keep a few bottles of trendy beverages in the fridge, it’s time to check your pantry—and fast. After a potentially dangerous discovery, a popular drink has been urgently recalled across Australia.

Arepa, a New Zealand-based company known for its ‘brain drink’ range, has issued a nationwide recall of several of its products after reports emerged that some bottles may contain pieces of glass.

The recall affects Arepa drinks sold at major supermarkets including Coles in New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), and Victoria (VIC), Woolworths in VIC, and independent retailers such as IGA in NSW and QLD..

The drinks are also available for purchase online, and deliveries have been made to the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Western Australia, NSW, QLD, and VIC.

If you have any Arepa drinks at home, check the packaging immediately. The recall applies to specific batches such as:

  • Arepa for Calm & Clarity 300ml: Best Before: 24 Jan 2026
  • Arepa for Performance 300ml: Best Before: 22 Jan 2026

If you’ve purchased the drinks enumerated above, do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund—no receipt is required.

If you’ve already consumed the drink and are feeling unwell or concerned, seek medical advice as soon as possible.

For further information about the recall, please contact Arepa AU Pty Limited at +6421 056 0408. You can also email them at [email protected] or visit their website.

Glass contamination in food and beverages is a rare but severe issue. Ingesting even tiny shards of glass can cause injuries to the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines and, in some cases, require emergency medical attention.

The risks are even greater for older Australians, who may already have sensitive digestive systems or underlying health conditions.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand manages food and drink recalls. It works closely with manufacturers and retailers to quickly remove potentially dangerous products from shelves.

Have you ever experienced a product recall or found something unexpected in your food or drink? How did you handle it? We’d love to hear your stories and tips for staying safe in the comments below.
