Self-saucing pudding

Spoil yourself and a friend with a delightful self-saucing pudding for two. Easy to make and deliciously chocolatey and gooey.


  • 1/2 cup self-raising flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 40 g butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder


  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

To serve

  • Your choice of berries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream


Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a baking dish.

In a large bowl, sift the flour and cocoa powder. Stir in the brown sugar.

Mix the melted butter, milk and egg together then add to the flour mixture. Combine until smooth and pour into the baking dish.

For the sauce, combine the brown sugar and cocoa powder together and sprinkle over the pudding. Gently pour the boiling water over the pudding to cover (add a more water if needed).

Bake for around 35 minutes. Serve dusted with cocoa powder, your choice of berries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
