Spanning a month, Federation Square will play host to a number of exhibitions and events in the lead-up to Christmas. Get ready for Whiteout, where Melbourne-based designers, SIBLING, will transform Federation Square for the Spirit of the Square, into an engaging and interactive landscape, with an installation of large, snowy white, spheres.

Sydney-siders, you truly are spoiled for magic this Christmas. This year thousands of LED lights will blaze over Pitt Street Mall in a state-of-the-art installation. The lights, suspended above the length of the mall, will be integrated with a free smartphone app, giving you the chance to play and control the colour change sequencing as you walk along. The surrounding buildings will be transformed into a striking dream landscape using digital projections. This is one Christmas experience which you won’t want to miss.

This year the iconic West End Brewery’s Riverbank Christmas Light Display is celebrating its 55th birthday. Each year the gardens along the banks of the River Torrens in Thebarton are transformed into a Christmas wonderland. You’ll see a marvellous nativity scene, Vulcan the blacksmith in the volcano and Moby Dick the whale displays, as well as a ferris wheel. Not to mention a visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer. This is one which the grandkids are going to love.
When: 1–31 December
Time: On display all day and night, with Santa onsite 7.30 pm–9.30 pm.
The highly anticipated Myer Christmas Parade & Pantomime returns this year to Brisbane, with a parade chock-full of festive delights. This high-energy, all-singing, all-dancing event will be fun for whole family. It features beautiful, giant inflatable decorations suspended five metres above 200 talented performers. Joining the parade, The City and Queensland Ballet will partner to captivate crowds with a special performance of The Nutcracker.

Experience the magic of the fetsive season in the city with the Perth Festival of Christmas. The festival runs for six weeks and is jam-packed with an array of entertainment. You won’t want to miss out on all the fun and excitement of the Christmas season in Perth. In particular, check out the Perth City Christmas Decorations, including a 13-metre Christmas tree, magical Christmas lights and decorations all over the city, a nativity scene at Council House, Christmas projections on the GPO building, and the lighting display at the Bell Tower.

Pack a picnic basket and head to St David’s Park to experience Carols by Candlelight in all its glory. You’ll need to collect your free ticket from designated areas at the event before you start warming up your singing voice.
Myer Hobart Christmas Pageant, 15 November
This is a spectacular display of holiday cheer, where you can be more than just a spectator but part of the action. Get the whole family involved in this one.
Darwinites can make their way over to the George Brown Botanical Gardens this Christmas to take part in Carols by Candlelight. The Darwin City Brass Band will perform alongside the Darwin Youth Choir, the Kormilda College Choir and many more. The concert begins at 6.30pm, with a magnificent fireworks display to top it all off at 8.30pm.

The ACT is holding its 70th Carols by Candlelight this year, and Woden Valley Youth Choir and Spectrum Big Band invite you to share in the spirit of Christmas. Pack a picnic basket with goodies and a blanket and bring your family to join thousands of other revellers for an enthralling evening of music and festivities. Sing along to your favourite carols under the stars. There will be guests performers, and as always, a visit from the man in red himself – Santa.
