Why Kaye says hooray for Harry and Meghan's special day

Ring out the bells – another Royal wedding is imminent, and we say congratulations and all the very British best to Meghan ‘Sparkle’ Markle and her beau, the charming Prince Harry.

Yes, the day is nigh – tomorrow morning – or 8pm AEST – the dynamic Ms Markle and Prince Harry will arrive at Windsor Chapel by carriage, and in front of 600 guests, they will exchange vows to become man and wife.

We’re excited!

Why?

Because Team YourLifeChoices are monarchists?

No, most of us are republicans. But we don’t think that matters two hoots anyway. What does matter is that this is a joyous occasion for two people who seem to have found love with each other.

In a world where headlines about terrorism, famine, corruption and poverty seem to dominate, isn’t it great to have a day when the feel-good factor runs so high?

What will Meghan wear? Is her gown designed by Aussies? Will there be a tiara? Will Harry be nervous? Who will walk Meghan down the aisle? The cute factor will no doubt be covered by Kate and William’s children, Charlotte and George. But who else will be in the bridal party. And will that fickle English weather finally produce some sunshine for the bride and groom? We hope so.

We don’t know about you, but we’ll be there in spirit, perched in front of our TVs with a glass of bubbly to watch the proceedings from go to whoa.

And why not? Yes, Harry has had a massively privileged upbringing – but losing his mum in a car accident when he was just 12 was a cruel blow. Who can forget the images of him as he stoically walked behind followed her hearse at the state funeral? As he has stated recently, no one would ask a child to do that now.

Meghan Markle has obviously faced life challenges as well. So, for these two to find each other is very special. And as they are both aged in their 30s, they know who they are and what they want, including their need to give back to the various social causes they both support.

So, ring the bells we say. It’s Meghan and Harry’s day and their time to love and be loved. May they enjoy a long and happy married life.

Here's where to watch the wedding ceremony:

  • SBS: Wedding coverage  from 7.30pm

  • Channel Seven and 7Plus: Wedding coverage from 4pm Saturday

  • Channel Nine and 9Now: Wedding coverage from 7pm

What a total load of hoopla.
The 'royal' media nonsense is little more than sidetracking the population to keep them from focussing on the serious and important issues in society. I have no interest in this rubbish. Sorry.

Yes, a totally irrelevant event to fill up all TV channels! That's exactly what the Media and Politicians want.

Most Brits like myself are monarchists and always will be. This to us is a reason to celebrate. It's part of us. We have a special relationship with the USA, in practice, actually more so than with Australia. This marriage creates a Princess who is an America, and with coloured genes, it's fantastic and will strengthen even further the bond between the two countries.

The royal family derives most of its wealth from land. Indeed, they are one of the largest land owners in Britain.
Like most other royal families, they obtained that land through theft, claiming a divine right to rule.

Australia has a Princess, Mary of Denmark.

Aussiefrog, Some in Australia believe a certain group has a divine right to Australian land.

I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion but why do some of you have to be so negative. Im not a royalist but I do wish them all the best for their future.

I am not "excited" about the Royal wedding. I am not waiting with bated breath about 'the dress' or who will walk Meghan down the aisle. I have a passing interest and will watch the coverage (hopefully not more than a few minutes) on the TV news. I wish the happy couple all the best but I understand that the spectacle is all about promotion of Britain in general and tourism in particular. The Royal family must be worth $billions to the UK economy. I do concede the Poms do the pomp and circumstance extremely well.
However I am not inclined to activate my British citizenship (by decent from my parents) because of it.

Not an issue niemakawa, I have no intention of standing for any elected office, except maybe the local RSL committee (but I would have to endure some serious arm twisting beforehand). As for political office I could not succeed, I like to make up my own mind on issues and not always toe the party line.

Well Aussie, what does your Queen meant to you? Something special? I don't think so, The Yanks have more affection for the Royal family than the average Aussie. Btw you did change the national anthem.

Okay Emps, Canada and New Zealand also changed their anthems. I remember hearing Prince Charles once say he wanted to be an ambassador for Britain, well what about the other nations in the Commonwealth. Who joined to EU and turned her back on those countries who, at great cost, went to Britain's aid in two world wars. How come when I arrived at Heathrow I had to stand in the 'Aliens' queue while the German and Italians with their EU passports walked straight through immigration. UK was not so fussy in 1940. Then of course the final insult, MBEs for the English cricket team that won back the Ashes.
So do not lecture us on loyalty.

Well Eddy, your second comments a bit of a rant, Nothing at all to do with the wedding. Let me just correct one widely held inaccuracy, about countries saving Britain in ww1 and ww2. No they didn't. Britain saved itself, the action on the continent was to liberate Europe, not the UK.

Emps, you may have tickled a raw nerve. Nevertheless, if you want to be pedantic about accuracy, where in your initial comment did you mention the 'wedding', nowhere as far as I can read. As for my comment, in no way did I suggest the Commonwealth 'saved' Britain, I wrote we 'came to Britain's aid'. If anyone 'saved' Britain in both world wars I would suggest it was USA.

We have both had two goes, lets leave it at that.

I have nothing but admiration for the Queen and Prince Phillip, both of whom have devoted their lives to "serve" the people of the Commonwealth. However I do have reservations about these upcoming nuptials and the detrimental effect it may have on the Monarchy. Time will tell. God Save the Queen.

Why? Just two lovely people who will serve the Commonwealth. Its a wonderful day and its a celebration. Its an amazing boost to the British economy.
So to all the grumps - yes, please go somewhere else so I can watch a magnificent wedding on TV uninterrupted by people who feel the need spoil the event.

"Birds of a feather" comes to mind. Prince Charle''s first wife was unsuitable for such a position. His second wife fits the bill and understands Royal protocol. As for the future wife of Prince Henry, she will have to be careful if she wants to remain part of the "firm". Many pundits predict the marriage 3 years at the most then she will be off with some of the Crown Jewels. Time will tell.

She is no longer allowed to have any political affiliation. He is not heir apparent and they will disappear into the background like Prince Edward and Prince Andrew have done over the years.
