Pulitzer Prize winning author, Harper Lee, has announced the publication of her second book, Go Set a Watchman, almost 55 years after her debut novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
The new novel was actually written prior to her writing To Kill a Mockingbird, the book that inspired the famous film of the same name, but was lost for years until her attorney, Tonja Carter, discovered the original manuscript late last year.
“I hadn’t realised it had survived, so was surprised and delighted when my dear friend and lawyer Tonja Carter discovered it. After much thought and hesitation I shared it with a handful of people I trust and was pleased to hear that they considered it worthy of publication,” says Lee. “I am humbled and amazed that this will now be published after all these years.”
Lee, who is deaf and almost totally blind, lives in an assisted-living facility in the small Alabama town where she grew up with her friend Truman Capote.
