Lean on me

Turns out that it’s not only human babies who need to be watched like a hawk. Watch this heart-warming video of six-week-old baby elephant Omysha who takes a tumble when she tries to climb out of a pit at Zurich Zoo.

The footage, filmed at Zurich Zoo’s Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park, shows adult elephants rushing over to lend a trunk or three to help the flailing baby back up. Obviously they were following the ‘lean on me, when you’re not strong’, line of thought!

Reinforces the old adage that it takes a village to raise a family.

We saw something similar in the wild in Africa and it was magical. It's so much better to see elephants in the wild if you can afford it and it's a better life for the animals, but sadly their habitat is being diminished and they are being poached for their ivory at a faster rate than they are being born, so extinction is a serious possibility unless the ivory trade can be stopped.
