Rescued magpie becomes dear friend

Whether you’re a magpie fan – or not – you’ll fall in love with these photos of ‘Penguin’ and the family that rescued her.

Penguin has become a regular visitor and friend of the Bloom family in Newport, Australia, after they rescued and nursed her back to health. She was discovered fluttering on the ground near a tree in 2013. Once healed, the family set Penguin free, but she still returns often to spend time with them.

In the mornings, Penguin waits for the household to leave for the day before flying off, and then comes back to greet the children when they get home from school. The family say, “It’s like a dog wagging its tail – she sits there in the tree and flaps her wings like she’s excited.”
