Animal Kingdom is a 2010 Australian crime drama starring James Frechville, Joel Edgerton and Guy Pearce, with stand-out performances from Jacki Weaver and Ben Mendelsohn. It was written and directed by David Michôd.

The film follows seventeen-year-old Josh (Frechville) as he negotiates his survival amid the chaotic criminal actions of his volatile family. Josh remains loyal to his family, even when it means helping them commit crimes. He is also protective of his manipulative matriarch grandmother, Janine (Weaver). But Josh’s allegiance is turned on its head when straight-laced Detective Senior Sgt Nathan Leckie (Pearce), offers him protection in exchange for information that would send his uncles to prison and destroy his family.

This film is a special example of modern Australian cinema; powerful with a robust storyline enacted by a magnificent cast.
