Widow Allowance

New claims for Widow Allowance closed on 1 July 2018. You may instead be able to apply for a Newstart Allowance. If you claim Newstart Allowance and meet Widow Allowance eligibility, you’re exempt from Mutual Obligation Requirements. This means that you don’t need to look for work.

If you have no dependent children and have not been getting a payment from Centrelink, Bereavement Allowance helps give you an adequate level of income while you make funeral arrangements, settle financial affairs, look for work and find out whether you are eligible for a longer term payment from Centrelink.

If you are in receipt of an eligible pension or allowance, a Bereavement Assistance helps make it easier for you to adjust to changed financial circumstances after the death of your partner or someone you cared for.
