Challenge of natural disasters

Those affected by Australia’s spate of natural disasters over the last few years are not only trying to rebuild their lives, but are struggling to insure against further catastrophes.

To reduce insurance premiums, the Government is investing $100 million in natural disaster mitigation. A National Insurance Affordability Council will assess proposed mitigation projects, review the potential and actual impact on insurance premiums and explore ways to make flood risk data more available.
