Government (and Opposition) travel spending skyrockets

Font Size:

The cost of taxpayer-funded travel has almost doubled since the time of the Abbott Government, with ballooning travel allowances being blamed on Ministers not wanting to live in Canberra.

The total cost of travel, which includes airfares, taxis and travel allowance, exceeded $2.13 million in the last financial year – an 87 per cent increase on the Abbott Government’s travel expenditure.

But it’s not just the Government’s travel spending that has skyrocketed – the Opposition’s travel costs have leapt 66 per cent to $2.34 million.

It is believed that a greater share of government staff living outside Canberra, as well as the expansion of cabinet from 13 to 21 ministers, were responsible for some of the increase.

Some travel costs relate to genuine work but other would appear to be to suit lifestyle including pretend ‘work’ which ends up more holiday than work.
The media has been on this one for years but I suspect the bastards still abuse their privilege. Such is the price we all pay for ultimate power with controls which are in many instances self serving and abused. Who could ever forget Bronny and her helicopter misuse going back over many years. At least the stench was so great that she was pushed out….but should have been many years earlier.

Still so full of hatred MICK, I just knew you would be the first to comment. With regards to Bronny, can you not please comment on some of the other mob’s transgressions or would that go against your ALP thinking?

I’m not shocked at all. Our leaders are of the 1%. They have no idea of value.

Experience in business taught that it is very easy for people to spend other people’s money so spending taxpayers dollars is probably easier again as there is no one holding the squanderer accountable at all.

Heaven forbid that a jobseeker get $1 more than they’re entitled to…. call out the debt collectors….. Of course now I know why – thats $1 less in the trough for the snouts to get
