The ARQRV is a voluntary organisation run by residents who live in retirement villages. It was established in 1992 on the advice of the then Minister for Consumer Affairs for the purpose of representing the interests of village residents to government and to the scheme operators. The Association encourages members to become aware of their rights as village residents in terms of their contracts and the Retirement Villages Act and also assists them in dealing with disputes with the scheme operator as they may arise, helping residents to engage with the legal system if necessary.
ARQRV currently has 6000 members throughout Queensland and a volunteer committee of seven residents who run the organisation. It also publishes a monthly E-newsletter and a printed newsletter every four months. Whilst the organisation has made representation to Government for on-going funding this has not been forthcoming and so it relies on membership fees to keep us operational.
