Happy Birthday Bettie Page

Font Size:

Iconic 1950s pinup and Playboy centrefold model Bettie Page was born on this day in 1923. Hailed as the original ‘queen of pinups’, Bettie appeared in more magazines than Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford combined – and all in a short seven-year modelling career.

Bettie Page was born in Nashville, Tennessee on 22 April 1923, then spent her youth in California, prior moving to New York City as a young adult to make it big in the movies. Whilst she wasn’t swamped with acting work, the camera loved her, and she began to find work as a pin-up model. Bettie posed for countless photographers throughout the 50s, and was one of the earliest Playboy Playmates, posing as Miss January 1955. According to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner: “She was a remarkable lady, an iconic figure in pop culture who influenced sexuality, taste in fashion – someone who had a tremendous impact on our society.”

Happy Birthday Bettie Page. Thanks for the memories.
