Whether it’s a full body makeover or just shedding a few extra pounds to make you feel better, many people look to spring and summer as a reason to lose weight. These five simple tips will help you on your way.
Stand up and be counted
Standing up can account for up to 50 per cent of the energy we expend each day, so if you’re prone to sitting for most of the day, get up and stand. Eat your breakfast standing at the kitchen bench, or find a space on public transport to stand for most of your journey. If you have a cordless phone, walk around while chatting to friends.
Healthy snacking
Don’t get caught being hungry on the hop. Always have a healthy snack to hand – a piece of fruit, bag of unsalted nuts or dried fruit. Portioning these snacks out at home will also help you know exactly how much you’re eating throughout the day. Or why not make your own healthy muesli bars at home? Here’s a quick recipe.
Go green
Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale help boost your immune system and nutrient intake and will stop you eating other options which have more carbohydrates. Green veggies are so minimal in calories that your body burns many of the calories off during digestion.
Find a delicious healthy balance
Start the new year as you mean to go on and don’t skip meals – that’s never good for you. Don’t deny yourself every single treat because that will just make you miserable. Finding a healthy middle ground means having treats but choosing the ones that are better for you, easy to prepare and truly tasty.
Don’t ditch the leftovers
If you’ve gone to the effort of preparing a healthy meal, don’t throwyou’re your leftovers. Instead of missing breakfast, eat your leftovers. They’ll still be delicious and way more nutritious than a lot of quick breakfast foods we often eat without thinking.
