How to … make 10 simple face masks

Beauty products can cost a small fortune, so why waste money when you don’t need to? Here are eight simple face masks that you can whip up in your kitchen, with ingredients from the pantry or fridge. It couldn’t be simpler!

For each of the following face masks: mix the ingredients well, apply to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area, leave on for 10–15 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Voilà!

To exfoliate:

Brown sugar and coconut oil (to form a paste)

Removing dead skin cells is a must in any skincare routine. The smooth consistency of coconut oil provides the perfect applicator, and when mixed with brown sugar – a gentle grit – you’re exfoliating and hydrating at the same time.

To calm and soothe:

One tablespoon turmeric and two teaspoons of honey (to form a paste).

Turmeric is well known for its natural anti-inflammatory properties, but also works well when applied to the face – especially when combined with honey, which also has anti-bacterial properties and can increase your skin cell turnover.

To tighten and smooth:

Egg white, oats, honey, lemon juice.

Honey’s anti-inflammatory properties and the vitamin C in lemon juice help to even out your complexion. Oats (an exfoliant) and protein in the egg whites help to strengthen and tighten the skin.

To refresh skin before bed:
One tomato and two tablespoons of milk.

To tone:
Two teaspoons of coffee and two teaspoons of honey.

To deep cleanse pores:
Two tablespoons of yoghurt and one tablespoon of oats.

Anti-ageing:
One egg and one teaspoon of aloe vera juice.

Anti-spot:
One egg white and one teaspoon of lemon juice.

For radiant skin:
Two tablespoons of yoghurt and two teaspoons of lemon juice.

For flawless skin:
One tablespoon lemon juice and two teaspoons of honey.

Have you ever made your own beauty products? What do you recommend to keep your skin healthy?
