Indulge yourself cheaply

Have a cuppa
The classic cup of tea might hold more health benefits than you’d think. It can reduce stress hormones, contains antioxidants, help aid weight loss and can even reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Not to mention it’s a great way to take a moment to sit and relax.

Get your nails done
Having your nails taken care of by another person is a great way to feel pampered. It’s a little treat that lasts a while, so you can keep looking down at your hands and feeling a little fancy. If going out and having them done isn’t in your budget, find a friend to exchange manicures with.

Watch a funny movie
Simple but sweet, watching a funny movie is a great way to relax and reduce your stress. Even anticipating laughter can reduce stress, and having a chuckle seems to improve blood flow and blood pressure, and boost your immune system. Your body might enjoy it as much as you do.

Get a massage
It doesn’t need to be an extravagant hot-rock-and-steam-pools type of massage to leave you feeling energised and invigorated. There are plenty of stalls and small massage parlours that offer a $1 per minute deal. Splashing out $10 or $15 can change the whole course of your day.

Take it to the bedroom
Your days are long and busy and stressful, so you need some time to focus on you … like really focus on you. Studies have shown that sex can boost your immune system, lower blood pressure and raise your self-esteem. Orgasms lower your risk of prostate cancer and heart attack, relieves headaches and improves the appearance on skin. Whether this is a tango or a solo dance, it can be a great way to take some much needed ‘me time’.

Eat some dark chocolate
Chocolate is often the first thing many people think of when they want to indulge. Along with a rich and satisfying taste, it also has a number of health benefits. Packed with antioxidants and nutrients, dark chocolate can improve your blood flow, lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart attack.

Stretch
Stretching out your muscles can leave you feeling connected, calm and lively. Yoga With Adriene, a YouTube channel, offers a variety of practices of varying lengths, focuses and ability levels. Using a free and accessible coach to guide your practice can take the weight off your mind and let you focus inward.

Fancy fruits
Go to the shops and chose some exotic fruits you’ve never seen or have been wanting to try. It’s like a mini, healthy adventure for your senses. Starfruit, dragon fruit and lychees, for example, probably aren’t on your daily menu. This is a cheap and fun way to break your ordinary diet and routine and, who knows, you may discover a new favourite snack.

Breathe it in
You don’t actually need to visit a resort or yoga studio to trick your body into thinking you are there. Lavender, commonly used in aromatherapy, is said to help reduce stress, anxiety and even mild pains. Drop a few drops of lavender oil in a burner or hang some sprigs around your house to give your senses a whirl.

Do you have any other suggestions? What’s your favourite pamper pastime?
