Budget bathroom cleaning tips

Keeping your bathroom clean can be a tiresome and sometimes expensive chore. But these tips will keep your bathroom looking brilliant, using simple and often natural ingredients and tools you’ll have around the house.

Vinegar and water are your best bathroom buddies
Mineral deposits can build up in your showerhead, causing them to block and the water to spray out at all different angles. But there’s an easy way to ensure your shower sprays on you and not your tiles and glass.

Turn off your water at the mains, then fill a plastic bag with distilled white vinegar, place the shower head inside and seal with an elastic band. Let it sit for an hour, then remove and rinse. You may need to scrub a little with an old toothbrush to remove any remaining deposits.

According to Metropolitan Plumbing, shower filters are an effective long-term solution to prevent odours caused by minerals and impurities in the water.

You can also use vinegar for any number of bathroom cleaning applications. These videos will show you how you can make your bathroom all sparkly, using nothing more than standard white vinegar, although you can use distilled white vinegar to make the job go faster.

Clean crevices with a screwdriver
Wrap a disinfecting wipe around a flat-head screwdriver, then use it to clean those hard-to-reach crevices, such as those around your toilet cistern or in between tiled areas around your sinks and mirrors. You’ll be amazed at how these areas can clog up with smelly mould and dirt. If your wipe gets too dirty, simply replace it with another and get back to it.

Clean taps and chrome fixtures with lemon juice
Lemon juice is a powerful cleaner and will leave your chrome taps and fixtures looking brand new. Simply cut a lemon in half and rub the juice on the offending fixtures and water spots will disappear.
