Pre-order your prescriptions

Patients all over Australia will soon be able to pre-order their prescription medication.

Pre-order your prescriptions

The launch of QR codes on prescriptions will mean that, for the first time, patients all over Australia will be able to pre-order their prescription medication, instead of waiting while it is dispensed.

A QR code looks like this:

It is a secure code which contains a link to your medicine’s information for that script. To use it, you simply download the free eRx Express smartphone app, use the app to ‘scan’ the code (this involves pointing your phone’s camera at the code), nominating which pharmacy you wish to pick your prescription up from and then setting a time and date for collection.

The pharmacy can then access your script information through eRx Script Exchange’s secure national network, which is already used by 20,000 GPs and 4300 pharmacists.

When you go to the pharmacy to pick up your prescription, simply take your paper prescription up to the counter and exchange it, without the wait time for your prescription.

The app can be downloaded for free for the iPhone, Android and Windows smartphones. You can find it at the App Store for iPhone, Google Play for Android and Windows Phone for Microsoft.

Would you feel comfortable pre-ordering your prescriptions using your smartphone?

You don't need a smart phone to set this up. Chemist warehouse will set this up for you. All you have top do is leave your prescription with repeats with them, and when you start to run out,. you just phone them and you can go and pick the 'script' up without waiting.

or better still they post them out to you when due and free postage on your other items too - dont have to clock up the $149 any time as long as they have your repeats. Anyway I do wonder how many Seniors actuall go for a smart phone. Most I know have the Samsung flip phones which cost around $79 just for emergencies when out in the car etc. With Telstra best as they let you have $30 charge PAYG for 6 months. Others dont spend it gone in 30 days. And you can get your flybuys on the re-charge.
