National Prescribing Service (NPS) has released a new app for the iPhone and iPad which is designed to help you take your antibiotics correctly and on time.
Taking your antibiotics in the correct manner will help you to get better more quickly, and can prevent antibiotic resistance. If you don’t take the full course of antibiotics you are prescribed, or if you miss a dose, you may not have the right amount of antibiotics in your system to fight off your infection. Without knowing it you may still be contagious, or you may be allowing the bacteria causing the infection to become more resistant to antibiotics, making it harder to cure in the future.
The app allows you to search for the type of antibiotics you are taking, and to then input the dose and frequency with which it has been prescribed. The app then creates a series of modifiable alarms to let you know when it is time for your next dose.
The app also allows you to fill out a recovery diary which can be shared with family and friends via Facebook, Twitter or email.
You can download this free app by searching for ‘Antibiotics Reminder’ in the app store on your iPhone or iPad, or you can find out more by visiting www.nps.org.au
