PBS to fund nicotine patches

Good news for smokers who want to give up but can’t afford the expense of the nicotine patches which can help you on your way. From February 2011, nicotine patches will be funded by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

An estimated 70,000 Australians will be urged to quit their smoking habit thanks to the inclusion of nicotine patches on the PBS, reducing the monthly cost from $140 to $5.40 per script. Currently smoking related diseases and days lost due to illness, costs Australia $30 billion each year.
