Breast prostheses rebate

Life after a mastectomy can be difficult, coming to terms with the physical changes can take years. Under a new scheme funded by the Government, women can now get a rebate on the cost of breast prostheses, making the physical changes less noticeable.

Women how have had a mastectomy, as a result of breast cancer, can now claim up to $400 on the cost of breast prostheses, purchased from 1 July 2008 onwards. This includes new and replacement prostheses, and can be claimed from Medicare.

For more information, you can contact Medicare on 132 011, or via their website, www.medicareaustralia.gov.au.
