In over your head

There’s a new way to get married, with Tahiti Vacations now offering underwater weddings.

In over your head

Just when you thought you’d heard it all, there’s a new way to get married. Intended for couples seeking a bit of adventure as part of their big day, Tahiti Vacations now offers underwater weddings.

Also available for the renewal of vows, the exclusive ceremony takes place at an underwater chapel created in the lagoon of Bora Bora. With the use of underwater helmets, the bride and groom along with their best man and maid of honour can live out this romantic moment without holding their breath!

Named after the cave of love in Tahitian, a Polynesian “Chaplin” welcomes the bride and groom into his undersea chapel, Te-Ana-Ipo. Dressed in white wetsuits, the ceremony is conducted with music, and the traditional wedding vows and rings are exchanged before the marriage certificate is signed.

A videographer accompanies the couple throughout their underwater ceremony to capture these moments – although it’s unlikely to be an occasion anyone would forget in a hurry!

What do you think? Would you consider an out-of-the-box ceremony like this? Or do you think some things are best left to tradition?

Have a fear of drowning so much prefer the dry versions of wedding ceremonies.
