Keep in touch while away

Keep in touch via social media while away over the Christmas period.

Keep in touch while away

Most of us have some form of social media on our iPhones, iPads or laptops. So if you are planning to be away from home during the festive season you can take advantage of these in order to stay in touch with your loved ones.

Here are our favourite three:

Skype

A powerful tool that allows you to make free video calls to friends and family all over the world. Our webmaster Drew explains how to get started using Skype.

Viber

Viber enables you to send free text, photo and video messages and make free calls to other Viber users, on any device and network, in any country. It is a useful way to chat with friends and family while travelling without using up data on your phone plan.

Facebook

This free website lets users share photos and comments on day-to-day activities and has recently announced its new video calling and new group text chat feature. To find out how to use this new feature, log in to your Facebook account and go to ‘www.facebook.com/videocalling'.

Do you use any of the above to keep in touch with your family and friends while you are travelling, or do you have another social media preference to share?

not a good idea to share too much on social media whist your home is unoccupied. I keep my photos for when I return, friends of friends can see your posts and it is always better to be safe than sorry.

I'm missing something; how can Viber NOT use up data on your phone plan?
