Are you missing out on this cafe’s secret discount trick?

If you’re the kind of person who loves a good brain teaser with your morning brew, you might want to keep your eyes peeled next time you pop into your local café. ]

One enterprising coffee shop has come up with a ‘clever’ way to offer customers a 10% discount—but there’s a catch. You’ll need to put your thinking cap on before you can claim your savings.

A diner recently shared a photo of the sign inside the café, which has since sparked plenty of chatter online.

The sign reads: ‘Brew Brain Teaser—solve this for 10% off’, followed by a riddle that’s sure to get your neurons firing, even before your first sip of caffeine.

Here’s the riddle in question:

‘I have weight but no mass.
I move swiftly yet stay still.
I’m felt, not seen, and speak without a voice.
I can lift, topple, and chill.
You can hold me, but I can’t hold you.
What am I?’

The rules are simple: tell the answer to your barista, and you’ll score 10% off your next drink. (Yes, you read that right—your next drink, not the one you’re about to order. We have questions, too!)

The café, known as Creeks Cuppa, has certainly found a way to make the morning coffee run a little more interesting. But not everyone is convinced it’s a good idea. When the sign was posted to social media, reactions ranged from amusement to mild panic.

‘Just pay the 10%,’ one person joked, while another admitted, ‘I’d be out of there in a flash—not because of the cheek, but because I’d never get it, especially before caffeine!’

It’s a fair point. For many of us, the pre-coffee brain is not exactly firing on all cylinders. The thought of having to solve a riddle before getting your much-needed flat white might be enough to send you straight to the next café down the street.

But for others, it’s a bit of fun—and a chance to save a few dollars. After all, who doesn’t love a discount, especially when the cost of living keeps creeping up?

And let’s be honest, a little mental exercise never hurt anyone. (If you’re still puzzling over the answer, don’t worry—we’ll reveal it at the end of the article.)

This isn’t the first time an Aussie café has made headlines for its quirky approach to discounts. Earlier this year, another café went viral after a customer posted a photo of their sign, which offered a discount for customers who ordered politely. (‘A coffee, please’ got you a cheaper cuppa than a curt ‘coffee!’—a gentle reminder that manners matter.)

So, would you take on the challenge for a cheaper coffee? Or would you rather pay full price and keep your brainpower in reserve for the crossword? We’d love to hear your thoughts—and your guesses!—in the comments below.

And now, as promised, the answer to the riddle: it’s ‘the wind.’ Did you get it right? Or are you still scratching your head?

Whether you’re a riddle master or just in it for the caffeine, we want to know: what’s the quirkiest café discount you’ve ever come across? Would you play along for a cheaper cuppa, or is it all just a bit too much before your morning coffee? Share your stories and opinions below—and let’s see who’s got the sharpest minds (and the best coffee recommendations) in the community!
