Meghan and Harry share rare family moment—but not everyone is cheering

When it comes to the royal family, there’s never a dull moment—especially when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are involved.

This week, the Duchess of Sussex found herself at the centre of a social media controversy after posting a video to celebrate her daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday.

And let’s just say, the internet had a lot to say about it.

The now-viral video, shared on Meghan’s social media, shows the couple letting loose in the hospital labour ward.

Yes, you read that right—Meghan and Harry are seen dancing, gyrating and even twerking to Starrkeisha’s ‘The Baby Momma Dance’ while waiting for Lilibet to make her grand entrance.

Meghan, ever the performer, plays it up for the camera, while Harry, dressed in a hoodie, gets his groove on with some sideways moves and enthusiastic arm-raising.

The video is actually a throwback to a popular trend from a few years ago, where expectant mums would dance to the catchy tune in hopes of encouraging labour.

Meghan captioned her post: ‘Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking and acupuncture didn’t work—there was only one thing left to do!’

But as with anything royal (or ex-royal), the reaction was swift and divided.

Some viewers were left cringing, with comments like ‘Make it stop. #Cringe’ and ‘Everything they do to be “relatable” is weirdly not relatable. It’s bizarre how they never miss.’

Others described the video as ‘beyond cringe’ and questioned the couple’s attempts to connect with the public.

On the flip side, Meghan and Harry’s loyal fans came out in force, calling the couple ‘icons’ and praising their authenticity.

One supporter jokes, ‘Little Britain is about to crash out bad. I am telling you, just go see Meghan’s social media post. They might have just survived Brexit—they won’t survive this.’

Another pointed out that Harry had already mentioned their ‘Baby Momma dance’ in his best-selling memoir, Spare, where he described the birth of Lilibet as filled with ‘nothing but joy and love in that room’.

The birthday celebrations didn’t stop at the dance video.

Meghan also shared a series of heartwarming photos of Lilibet, including a precious newborn snap and a more recent shot of Harry running barefoot with his daughter on a sand track.

‘The sweetest bond to watch unfold,’ Meghan wrote.

‘Daddy’s little girl and favourite adventurer. Happy birthday, Lili!’

For royal watchers, these glimpses into the Sussex family’s private life are a rare treat.

Until recently, Meghan and Harry have kept their children—Lilibet and six-year-old Archie—largely out of the public eye.

But with Meghan’s return to social media to promote her new Netflix series and her As Ever lifestyle brand, fans have been treated to more candid family moments, including a sweet photo of Meghan and Lilibet running together across their Montecito estate.

A quick royal refresher: Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on 4 June 2021 and is currently seventh in line to the British throne, following her uncle Prince William, his three children, her dad Harry and big brother Archie.

So, what’s the verdict?

Is Meghan’s birthday dance a fun, relatable moment from a modern mum—or a royal misstep that’s just a bit too much for some?

Love them or loathe them, the Sussexes certainly know how to get people talking!

This latest post from Meghan Markle has sparked a mix of opinions online, highlighting how personal expressions can resonate differently across audiences.

What do you make of the video and the wider response it has received? Do you think public figures should share more candid moments, or should some things remain private? We welcome your thoughts and invite you to join the conversation in the comments below.

  1. They didn’t want the royal workload in the UK and expected the same security, salary and recognition as those who carry the load?
What lazy, entitled losers! People such as Princess Anne are the hardest working – records prove – while these two, especially her, just didn’t want the boredom of duty.

And playing the racism card during the Oprah Winfrey interview, not saying who it was – causing distress to the Queen. And then trying to retract the allegation years later was too late! The Queen was dead and not there to hear it!
