Think dreams are nonsense? Expert decodes common meanings

Those strange, sometimes bizarre stories our minds conjure up at night can leave us scratching our heads in the morning. One minute, you’re flying. The next, you’re back in high school and wake up wondering, ‘What was that all about?’

It’s common to have vivid nocturnal adventures that make little sense in the light of day. We often ponder whether these nightly narratives hold some hidden meaning, a secret language our subconscious is trying to speak.

Dreams can be a rich tapestry reflecting our life’s journey, anxieties, and deepest desires. But what do these nightly narratives mean?

Lisa Stardust, an astrologer and dream interpreter, has revealed the hidden meanings behind some of our most common dreams. Here’s her perspective on what these frequent dreams signify in real life.

Losing teeth

The unsettling sensation of your teeth crumbling or falling out is a common dream motif that can leave you feeling rattled upon waking. According to Stardust, this dream is less about dental disasters and more about a subconscious expression of stress and anxiety.

Teeth, which are generally seen as permanent fixtures, symbolise stability. Dreaming of losing them might indicate insecurity or being overwhelmed in your waking life.

‘Your subconscious is letting you know that you must take time to chill and decompress,’ she said.

Dying

Dreaming of death can be terrifying, but Stardust reassures us that it’s not a premonition of doom. Instead, it’s a profound symbol of change. Death in dreams can signify the end of one phase and the beginning of another.

‘Whether you like it or not, the universe is sending you the message that you must evolve in some way,’ she said.

Being chased

The heart-pounding fear of being pursued in a dream is a dramatic representation of avoidance in your real life. Stardust explained that this dream is a metaphor for something you’re running from, perhaps a problem or a difficult decision.

She said: ‘The time has come to confront matters head on—even though you don’t really want to.’

Being naked

Finding yourself exposed in a dream, whether in your underwear or completely bare, can be a mortifying experience. Stardust interpreted this common dream as a sign that your inner self is yearning to be acknowledged and expressed.

‘Showing off your true self can make anyone feel vulnerable, but your subconscious wants to be seen for its authenticity and realness,’ she explained.

Flying

Dreams of flight are often exhilarating and liberating, and they carry a positive message. Stardust said flying dreams are a beacon of hope, especially if you’ve been facing challenges.

‘Though things seem tough now, they’re getting better soon. You have the power to rise above and attain greatness. Your moment is coming,’ she said.

Pregnancy

Dreams of pregnancy can evoke a range of emotions, from joy to anxiety. However, Stardust pointed out that these dreams rarely pertain to an actual pregnancy. Instead, they symbolise the gestation of ideas and creative projects.

‘A creative venture is on the horizon, so don’t give up on a dream. You’ll attain everything you want as long as you believe in the vision,’ she said.

Falling

The sensation of falling into a dream is often jarring enough to wake you up. Stardust explained that this dream is linked to a sense of losing control or a fear of failure in your waking life.

‘The fear of not being in control or acknowledgement of such worries can trigger these terrifying dreams,’ she said.

‘Let go of your expectations and just be.’
