Golden Globes

While they may not be as prestigious as the Oscars, the Golden Globe awards are still an excuse for Hollywood to glitter. Recognising the previous year’s best performances and movies, the Golden Globes are seen as a strong indication of who will be going home with a shiny golden statue.

Slumdog Millionaire, a movie featuring no headline stars, took out the Best Motion Picture – Drama, and also collected three other awards for the night. This is a true triumph for movies which buck the Hollywood trend for blockbusters.

Kate Winslet won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama for her role in Revolutionary Road beside Leonardo DeCaprio, who lost out in the Best Actor in a Drama. She also picked up a gong for Best Supporting Actress in The Reader.

Mickey Rourke completed his amazing comeback to stardom, with his amazing role in The Wrestle, winning him the Best Actor Globe.

Noteable other awards went to the late Heath Ledger for his stunning role in The Dark Night, and the cute and indestructible pile of metal, Wall-E was voted Best Animated Feature Film.
