In like Flynn

Had he lived long enough, Errol Flynn would be celebrating his 100th birthday on 20 June, making him the oldest swashbuckler around, surely something to commemorate?

Born in Hobart on 20 June 2009, Errol Flynn is surely one of Tasmania’s most famous exports. Only living until he was 50, he nevertheless managed to pack quite a bit in to his few short years, three wives and countless lovers if the tales are to be believed!

Staring in eight movies with Olivia de Havilland, the attraction between the pair was obvious and although rumours were rife, the relationship was purely platonic, according to Ms de Havilland.

Not only was he a famous movie star but and accomplished writer, with three books to his name. All this ensures his centenary celebrations in Hobart this week will go with a bang. Events planned include:

Errol Flynn Centenary Display
12-20 June, 10am-5pm daily
Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery

Errol Flynn Film Festival
16-21 June, 2.30pm and 6.30pm
State Cinema

Errol Flynn Heart Foundation Gala Ball
20 June, 6.30pm
Wrest Point Casino
