Win double passes to Ammonite

Even in double-lockdown Melbourne, cinemas are open for business and there are few better places to escape the realities of a challenging year. We’re pleased to offer 10 YourLifeChoices members free double passes to the soon to be released Ammonite.

Ammonite, starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, will be released around Australia on 14 January.

The film takes us back to the 1840s. Acclaimed self-taught palaeontologist Mary Anning (1799-1847) works alone on the wild and brutal Southern English coastline of Lyme Regis, but the days of her famed discoveries are behind her and she now hunts for common fossils to sell to rich tourists to support herself and her ailing widowed mother.

When one such tourist, Roderick Murchison, arrives in Lyme Regis on the first leg of a European tour, he entrusts Mary with the care of his young wife Charlotte, who is recuperating from a personal tragedy. Mary cannot afford to turn him down but, proud and relentlessly passionate about her work, she clashes with her unwanted guest.

Despite the chasm between their social spheres and personalities, Mary and Charlotte discover they can each offer what the other has been searching for – the realisation that they are not alone. It is the beginning of a passionate and all-consuming love affair.

The film is led by powerful performances from Kate Winslet (The Dressmaker, Titanic) and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Brooklyn) and is directed and written by BAFTA nominee filmmaker Francis Lee, of God’s Own Country fame.

The lucky winners will be notified by email by the end of next week.
