How to iron clothes without ironing

You’re standing at the ironing board ironing your fifth shirt of the day, and you think to yourself, “If only there was a way to iron without actually having to iron.” Well, there is.

Simply pop a couple of garments in your dryer, along with a damp bath towel. Set the timer for five minutes on medium heat, walk away and make yourself a cuppa (or grab a beer if it’s beer o’clock).

“How does it work?” you ask. Well, the steam from the drying towel removes the wrinkles from your clothes. After just five short minutes, pull your clothes out and you’ll find them wrinkle free. But you have to get them out of the dryer as soon as the timer goes off, for the longer they sit, the more likely they are to become wrinkled again.

There are, however, a couple of notes to keep in mind, because, as with all things in life, if it’s too good to be true, it usually is. You can only do this with a couple of garments at a time, as any more will cramp your clothes and cause them to crumple. This laundry trick also works best with 100 per cent cotton or fabric blends with a high-cotton content.

Oh, and if the item of clothing you want to drop into the dryer says ‘do not put in the dryer’, well, unfortunately, you just can’t bypass that advice, and you may need to pull out the iron after all.

So, it may not be the most environmentally friendly way to take the crinkles out of that cotton shirt, but if you’re ever cramped for time, then this ingenious little trick may save you a few minutes and still have you looking dapper for that dinner date.

  1. Shake items as soon as washing machine stops spinning and hang them appropriately, ie – all shirts go on coat hangers – then hang in bathroom while have a hot shower to assist with any creases dropping out. Do not throw in a heap when removing from washing machine or clothes line as they will definitely need ironing then.
