Stylewatch: How to style and rock a kaftan

Font Size:

Kaftans are famous for their eye-catching patterns and light and summery vibe and are renowned for comfort, so it’s no surprise that they return season after season. We can’t get enough. If you’re one of the many women who own a kaftan or are looking to try out the much-loved piece, then we have some tips and tricks on how to style yours.

Add a belt. If it suits your shape (typically hourglass or very straight figures) then why not consider adding a belt as a point of interest? It dresses up your outfit and when paired with tonal accessories, it creates a beautifully curated look. Depending on your dress level, layering in black or metallic accessories can fancy things up or, for a more casual setting, try out the rattan trend in accessories.

Glamourise! Looking to wear a kaftan to a formal evening? You couldn’t choose more comfortable clothing. You may feel that an embellished kaftan is the only way to go, but we prefer to allow jewellery to do that hard work in the glamming department. Layer up blingy necklaces and break the rules by wearing earrings as well – more is more. Wedges look great as do traditional heels; you can get away with footwear but always make it an open toe. And oversized sunglasses can really elevate the chicness!

Smart casual. Keep it smart, keep it casual, by pairing your kaftan with its perfect partner – crisp white pants. Add in low heels, tote bag and some delicate jewellery and you’ve got an outfit that will see you through the longest of lunches and into the evening.

Off the shoulder. Put some shoulder into it by wearing a kaftan top slightly off-centre. Some styles are specifically designed to be worn asymmetrically, however most wide-neck tops can be worn this way to a degree. This is a gorgeous way to move your look into the evening, with an up-do hairstyle and your favourite statement earrings.
