Featuring 140 garments, Jean Paul Gaultier’s exhibition has landed down under.
You may have heard there’s a new kid in town. The first international exhibition dedicated to the ground breaking French couturier, Jean Paul Gaultier’s fashionable collection has landed down under.
Exclusively showcased for Australians at the National Gallery of Victoria, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, features more than 140 garments.
Easily the best exhibition I’ve been to, it’s not only the garments themselves that will blow you away, but the way in which they are presented. Divided into different themes, each room has been decorated to match the garments it displays.
Almost mirroring sets from a movie, it’s this dedication to the different collections which brings them to life. Featuring photographs, sketches, and excerpts from runway shows, film, television, concerts and dance performances, the mix of media means there’s never a dull moment.
From the first dress Gaultier ever made, to his latest haute couture collection, the exhibition is a spectacular overview of the designer’s work.
Between the costumes worn by Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Beyonce, and the talking mannequins, there’s something to surprise everyone.
