Made for walking

Good news! Flats are back. Style guru SJ shares her suggestions for this season

Made for walking

Good news! Flats are back. Not only is spring bringing the sun back into our lives but it also sees the focus return to flat footwear options rather than towering high heels. Today I look at three of the hottest styles for spring.

Espadrilles
Popping up everywhere at the moment these shoes are not only comfortable and easy to wear but are also relatively cheap.  My favourites at the moment are from Seed Heritage, who apparently has a new shoe designer (much to my bank account’s dismay). They are doing them in a range of colour ways including a two tone, stripe and a leopard print pony fur option.

Seed Heritage, Ava Leather Espadrille, Ocelot/Black & White, $99.95

ASOS, River Island Espadrille, Blue/Red Stripe, $18.12

Brogues
Slightly more dressy than the espadrille, brogues are a fantastic way too look stylish at work or more formal events without having to strap yourself into high heels. Laces or buckles seem to be the main two variations for the brogue. This season also sees monochrome as a key trend, which means there are many white brogues around as well as the more traditional black. For the more daring there is always the metallic option.

ASOS, Marky Leather Brogues, Oxblood, $63.42

Wittner, Harley Leather Brogues, Navy/Orange, $139.95

Sneakers
Converse have always been a footwear staple, especially in the warmer months for casual dressing, often paired with dresses or shorts and skirts. The sneaker trend isn’t going anywhere this year with many of the high street chain stores offering their take on Nike’s Air Max sneaker. There are also a lot of dressy sneakers around, featuring embellishment such as silver or gold hardware. The snedge (sneaker wedge) is still around for those who find it hard to part with the extra height a heel brings. Both Zara and Topshop have fantastic options for reasonably priced, fashion forward, sneakers.

Topshop, Adley Runners, Black/Orange, Approx $77

Topshop, AMA Colour Block Runners, Grey/Black, Approx $77

There is nothing stylish about runners/sneakers. Why would you wear them with skirts and dresses? Hideous.

These shoes are hideous and do not appeal to me a retired Senior lady. I find all SJ's articles on fashion highly impractical as if copied from a web page, and the content does not appeal to most Seniors.
