Spring has well and truly sprung and in the fashion world that means a whole new palette of colours is upon us. Most brands are in the process of rolling out their Spring/Summer or Resort collections, full of fresh, bright pieces courtesy of the warmer weather. So which colours can you expect to see this season and what is the best way to wear them? I’m here to help you make the transition from black and grey to mint and orange as smooth as possible.
Bonjour mon ami! Coming to join its friend stripes, French navy is set to be a big hit this season. Considered a dark dull navy blue, French navy is more forgiving than black and looks good on most people. Consider trading traditional black for French navy to lighten up for Spring/Summer. Wear a French navy dress with a printed scarf and ballet flats. Swap your black pants and try French navy jeans or pants with a light coloured top or linen shirt instead. Opt for a French navy blazer and pair with white pants and a striped top for a truly Parisian look. Works exceptionally well with white and pastel colours such as baby pink, baby blue and mint.
Perhaps my favourite addition to the team, mint is back with a vengeance this season. A soft pale green, with a touch of blue, mint can be fresh and pretty or icy and cool. The best way to wear mint is in soft floaty fabrics such as silk, cotton or polyester. Pair a mint camisole with white pants and sandals for a fresh spring look. Lighten up an outfit with a mint jacket. Or go for a more Grecian-inspired look and wear a mint maxi dress. Pair with gold for a dressier ensemble.
Unsurprisingly white is big again this spring. An easy way to create a very fresh look for the warmer weather, you can opt for as little or as much white as you like. Given white is not the most practical colour, you may wish to simply paint your nails white or wear some white accessories such as bangles. White shoes are everywhere at the moment as well, from Converse, espadrilles and flat styles to heels. A white blazer is a great alternative to a black one and looks great over a black dress, or with darker pants and a printed scarf. For those wishing to embrace white wholeheartedly a white sundress is a beautiful spring outfit and you can’t beat an all-white ensemble of white pants and a tee to look fresh for spring/summer.
A vivid purplish shade of red, named after the flower of the fuchsia plant. Fuchsia is another great colour to break up a black or white outfit. A fuchsia wide brimmed hat is a great way to add a pop of colour, especially when poolside. Go for a fuchsia print scarf with a navy and white ensemble or a fuchsia dress with a wedge or sandal for a perfect spring outfit. Fuchsia looks perfect paired with navy, and would also work well with white and tan.
Orange isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. Pop orange is a great way to inject some colour and vibrancy into an outfit. For the less bold, go for an orange handbag which will go with almost anything and is a great way to break up black. An orange printed scarf is another great alternative and would look great with white or navy. An orange top also looks great with white or black pants or a skirt, or go for an orange dress instead of the standard little black dress. Complement orange with white, black, navy, tan and gold. We also love orange because it accentuates a summer tan!
