Stylewatch: choosing the perfect pair

Back with a vengeance, all you need to knock ‘em dead is a statement pair of earrings.

Trend alert: the ears have it

If you haven’t already noticed, earrings are having a major moment right now. Back with a vengeance, forget necklaces, bracelets or rings; all you need to knock ‘em dead this season is a statement pair of earrings.

A slightly dangerous trend because while bigger is better, heavier is obviously not. Not a huge ‘earring’ gal myself, last year I started re-wearing (read: re-pierced my ears) a pair of diamond studs on a daily basis. And now I have embraced the return of big earrings with open arms, despite the protests from my poor ear lobes.

Why am I such a fan? Earrings are an easy and inexpensive way to take an average outfit and make it special. Also, given their proximity to your face, they have the ability to draw attention to your features. Just make sure you opt for a hypoallergenic (usually nickel-free) pair that isn’t too heavy … you don’t want to be that woman with her earrings on the table halfway through the night!

Here are five of my favourite statement pairs to see you through the season and instantly add that wow factor to your outfit.

Who doesn’t love a good tassel?

Earrings with tassels, H&M, $14.99

Georg Jensen, eat your heart out.

Silver Smooth Erin Earrings, Sportsgirl, $16.95

The hoops have it.

Portsea Hoops, Kookai, $35.00

Flash those pearly whites.

Earrings, Zara, $24.95.

Ground-breaking: Florals for spring.

Etta Jewelled Flower Drop Earrings, Forever New, $19.99

Are you a fan of big earrings? Which style do you like most out of the above five?

How wonderful to draw attention to wrinkly necks with such bold items of jewellery.
A bit like eye shadow on wrinkles - not really a good look.

Surely the earrings draw the eyes to them and away from a wrinkly neck ... and what is the matter with wrinkles anyway. I'm just grateful that I've lived long enough to actually have wrinkles! And yes, I love earrings and the ones I like the best of those pictured above are the Sportsgirl Silver Smooth Erin Earrings.
