Volunteering programs

Q.Barbara
I want to do volunteer work while in India. Can you help me with any contact details you may have through any church/volunteer associations please?

A.Volunteering while travelling overseas is a great way to get a real flavour for the country you are visiting and gives something to those who need it most. It’s not as simple as just turning up and offering to help, some planning is needed. There are organisations which can arrange a position for you, along with accommodation, food and airport transfers, but these come at a cost. To give you an idea of what is included and prices, visit ProjectsAbroad.com.au.

If you have a skill or profession which you would be wiling to use while overseas, it may be worthwhile getting in touch with the professional body which governs this field as it may have a list of projects which are seeking your specific talent.

Australian Volunteers International is usually a good place to start looking, but at the moment, it does not have any projects in India. You can, however, still request information on the practicalities of volunteering overseas.

You can also visit the websites of the large humanitarian organisations such as UNICEF, Oxfam and The Red Cross, to find out if there are any projects being supported by them which you can join.
