And the world’s best airline is …

The 2016 World Airline Awards, run by leading consumer-aviation website, Skytrax, have honoured the best carriers from around the globe, as voted by almost 20 million passengers.

So, who took out the top spot?

Emirates was named the best airline in the world for the fourth time in 15 years. The world’s largest international airline also won the title for best in-flight entertainment for the 12th year in a row.

Emirates president Tim Clark said the company was “honoured to be recognised by the prestigious Skytrax awards”.

“The fact that these awards are based on the direct feedback from passengers is gratifying and wonderful recognition for all of the hard work that’s gone into creating the Emirates experience,” he said.

Last year’s winner, Qatar Airways, took out second place. Australia made it into the top ten, with Qantas named the ninth best airline in the world – one spot up from last year, and beating rival Virgin Australia, who dropped two places to 18th place.

With the top 10 consisting of almost all the same contenders as last year, the only new addition was Lufthansa who knocked out Garuda Indonesia, taking out 10th place.

The top 10 airlines in the world for 2016 are:

  1. Emirates
  2. Qatar Airways
  3. Singapore Airlines
  4. Cathay Pacific Airways
  5. ANA All Nippon Airways
  6. Etihad Airways
  7. Turkish Airlines
  8. EVA Air
  9. Qantas Airways
  10. Lufthansa

The Skytrax awards are decided based on independent surveys completed by almost 20 million passengers across 104 nationalities, covering more than 280 airlines. Measuring standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline products and services see all the awards at World Airline Awards.

Do these results surprise you? Would they change who you fly with? Who is the best airline in the world in your eyes?
