Apple’s five big announcements

Early this month, Apple announced significant changes and updates to many major products as well as a few new features. Drew shares the five biggest announcements.

Apple HomePod
It was only a matter of time before Apple introduced its competitor product to the Alexa Echo and Google Home and it hasn’t disappointed.

This new product is your ultimate home-assistant – a powered-up Siri that will retail for around $460 when released in December.

The future of home assistants is bright and I wouldn’t be surprised to find home assistants in 80 per cent of homes by 2030.

Notification and Do Not Disturb management
I can’t count how many times I’ve missed calls or important emails due to activating Do Not Disturb mode or turning off notifications on an app and forgetting to turn them back on. The iOS 12 update will allow users to set an end time on Do Not Disturb mode and allow users to group together notification types such as Facebook and Instagram so that you don’t forget to turn one back on.

Animojis
I can hear you asking, what is an Animoji? I asked the same question Apple announced this near new personalisation for your device. It’s an avatar created to look just like you in emoji format.

Group FaceTime
Users either love or hate FaceTime, but this feature may very soon be replacing trusty Skype as the go-to group communication platform with the ability to include up to 32 people in the same group chat.

Siri gets shortcuts
This update will essentially allow any iOS app to work with Siri. The new Shortcuts app will allow users to create a series of actions in different apps that can be carried out with a customised voice command.
