Best boot buys under $100

I haven’t bought any new boots for years as I’ve spent the last few Melbourne winters in Italy where the most my feet have worn were sandals and Havaianas. In Melbourne this year, I had to find some new boots to get me through the cold winter, but I set my price limit at a maximum of $100.

My first stop was Zara, as I have never been disappointed with their offerings. Zara is a worldwide Spanish retail chain that is very fashion forward, has all the latest shapes, colours and sizes, and usually very affordable prices. I love these cute ankle boots with studs, because they are flat and have a rubber sole, which means they are safer in the rain. If I buy leather-soled boots I take them to the boot maker to have a rubber sole put on, as I find leather soles in the wet can cause you to slip and slide all over the place.

The next option for an ankle boot from Zara is this side zipped classic heeled boot. It’s a really simple and plain shape made from synthetic materials at a really affordable price of $69.95, and only available in black.

I am loving this Williams knee high boot with the elastic back as it will stretch to fit different sized calves. The heel is about 40mm high, which makes it just that little bit elevated, and it has recently been repriced to $89.95, which brings it back into my price point.

As an alternative, take a look at this classic knee high boot from Target which has side zips for easy removal, a rounded toe and is available in black or brown at $49.00. For those of you who fancy an alternative to a plain ankle boot, this leopard option may be just the thing to spice up your winter darks. Priced at just $39 and made from synthetic materials, it’s certainly fashion at a value price.

This year, I’ve also noticed that the Hunters wellington boot has made quite a comeback. The original Hunters wellington boot was released in 1956. It is now so popular, it’s available in more than 14 colours and many different finishes. It’s certainly not for everyone, but if you need a practical, rubberised and affordable option, which is similar in style to the original, then you should take a look at this downpour rain boot from Target at just $29, or for a slicker and high shine version of a rain boot, then take a look at this option for just $30.

Do you have a fashion question for Peta? Do you have a favourite pair of boots that have stood the test of time?
