Reward cards can be a ticket to something for nothing - but how do you decide?
There are so many credit cards on the market, all offering different rewards so it can be difficult to know which one to choose. Truthfully, there is no one perfect card as the different benefits on offer suit different needs. So, what should you look for when choosing a credit card to get the most out of your points and obtain the maximum rewards?
Firstly, look for a card which offers a large sign up bonus. Take into consideration how long the deal lasts, how many points you will receive and what they can be redeemed. In order to receive the bonus there will be a spending minimum, so be sure that it is low and you can receive the bonus using your normal day-to-day spending.
Compare how many points you receive per dollar that you spend. Most cards offer one point for every dollar that you spend, but some will give extra points when you shop with specific retailers, for example the American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card offers three bonus points per dollar spent on eligible purchases.
While no one likes to pay annual fees, they are, unfortunately, a necessary evil. These fees range up to $100 pa, but the goal when choosing a rewards credit card is to maximise the value from the points earned on purchases relative to the annual fee of the credit card.
So, determine what benefits are important to you from your credit card and then chose which one will get you to your desired goal.
Are you happy with the rewards that you receive from your credit card? What benefits have you received from using your credit card?
