Five real-world fairytale locations

Have you ever dreamed of living your very own fairytale? Well you can, by visiting these these five locations which have to be seen to be believed.

Neuschwanstein Castle

Sleeping Beauty’s castle was inspired by this stunning structure located in Bavaria, Germany. The castle was built in the late 19th century as an homage and retreat for composer Richard Wagner.  Since then, it has opened to the public and has been visited by over 61 million people.

The interior is as marvellous as the exterior. Why visit Disneyland when you can see the real thing?

Cave of the Crystals (Cueva de los Cristales)

This cave looks like a chapter from Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth or perhaps Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Located in Mexico, the cave was uncovered by mining operations and is home to some of the world’s largest crystals up to 12 metres long. Perfect  or ‘fairytale like’ conditions allowed the crystals to grow over 500,000 years to monolithic proportions. See more photos at National Geographic.

Tulip fields in the Netherlands

These stunning fields and idyllic windmills look like they’re straight out of a dream – Dorothy might have had a much nicer time if she woke up in the Netherlands.

The tunnel of love, Ukraine

This beautiful railway line has found new life as a walking track for romantic couples.

The St. Paul Winter Carnival
This winter carnival, held in Minnesota, USA, is a sight to behold. Held in January each year, the festivities themselves are astounding but the big attraction is the Ice Palace. Constructed every few years, the palaces (and their destructions) are incredible are constructed entirely from ice.

See more palaces from the carnival’s past on the official website.
