Most Facebook users would agree that the site is a great way to share images with your friends. But occasionally you might be tagged in an unflattering photo that you don’t want everyone to see. By following a couple of easy steps you can remove your tag from a photo and can adjust your privacy settings to restrict who is allowed to tag you in any future photos.

A new Timeline feature is being introduced to all Facebook profile pages by the end of this week and it makes photos easier to access for people looking at your page. So it might be time to un-tag any images that you don’t want other people to see.

This can be done by selecting the photo you wish to un-tag and waving your mouse curser over the image so that it appears like this:

Click on ‘Options’ on the bottom right-hand corner of the photo and select ‘Report/Remove Tag’.

This will give you a number of options regarding the image:

The most common option of ‘I want to remove this tag’ will already be selected. Click on the ‘Continue’ button on the bottom right-hand corner.

To have better control over who can tag you in photos in the future, you can make some quick adjustments to your privacy settings. To access these you simply click on the small arrow that appears on the top right-hand corner of the home page next to the word ‘Home’. Then select the “Privacy Settings’ option.

Scroll down to the ‘Timeline and Tagging’ section and select ‘Edit Settings’:

This gives you a wide variety of options that will enable you to have more say on what can be done to your profile page:

From this screen you will be able to customise your Facebook profile. It’s well worth familiarising yourself with this page so that you can adjust the settings to meet your individual needs. Everybody treats their privacy differently and Facebook tries to cater to all privacy needs whether they are strict or relaxed. Mastering your Privacy Settings will give you far greater online confidence.

Have you had any awkward photos of you tagged on Facebook? Are you aware of how to control your privacy settings? After reading this information will you be making changes to your profile?
