No more searching for best fares

If you know exactly when you wish to fly ahead of time, Skyscanner’s notifications tool might be able to save you money when you travel.

It works like this: You search for flights using the Skyscanner website. Choose which city you wish to travel from and to, the dates on which you wish to travel, the number of passengers and your flight class, then click the ‘Search’ button.

Skyscanner will then show you a list of possibilities based on current flight prices. So how can you get a better deal without having to check back every day? A pop-up window will appear asking if you want to receive price alerts when the fares change, either up or down. All you have to do is input your email address.

If, for whatever reason you don’t see the pop-up, or you close it before you input your email address, then all you have to do is look to the top left hand corner of the search screen. It will say ‘Get price alerts’, and if you click on this, the window will reappear.

Skyscanner will now email you, no more than once a day, if a better price for a flight on these days comes on offer. You don’t have to sign up to hundreds of airline enewsletters, you can just wait on one email. And if nothing comes up, at least you know you really are getting the best price on offer.

Also, to help you analyse the best flights, based on fare and flight time, there’s a snapshot that appears at the top of the search. This details the best value, cheapest and quickest flight available.
