Most of us need someone with whom to chat, share stories and have fun – after all, that’s what friends are for.  But as life goes on, friendships can change and the person who has always been your confidant, may no longer be by your side.

YOURLifeChoices has gathered together 10 websites which can help you to improve your friendships, or make new ones. There are sites which allow you to search for like-minded people in your area, connect with friends from the past, or find tips on how to build a friendship. You can even meet people by playing word games online – friendships can be virtual too!

After raising a family and losing my husband to an illness 4 years ago I thought it was about time to start doing everything I always wanted to. But no, I was not yet going to have this luxury, I had a triple by pass, and came through successfully, I still felt something was missing. I then heard about a friend I had not seen for many years who had been through an illness, so I eventually found her through Facebook. We immediately made a date to catch up and it was a wonderful experience,so much laughter and reminiscing about the past. I am now going to lunch with some old school pals, looking very forward to it. I have always wanted to travel so this is my next adventure. We have to have our dreams . Don't say how bored you are with life. Get up and do something if you can. Only you can make a difference.

Friends who share your interests are the best. For me that meant joining my local U3A. I have lived in this community for 40 years and didn't know there were so many others who share my passion for French language and culture. Now I can't go to the supermarket without getting into a conversation with someone I know from U3A. My U3A has so many interest groups that there must be something for everyone, no matter how fussy. Most importantly it is cheap so I can afford it on a fixed income. But of course now I have to save up for the big trip to put my new language skills to the test. At least I will have plenty of mates to travel with.
