Two apps that could save a life

You hear those stories about incredible acts of people who, when saving a life, were not only there at the right time, but also had the required medical knowledge to do what needed to be done to help the injured party.

Well, now you can be that person, with these two free first-aid apps.

And they’re not just apps from some random guy on the internet – the sources couldn’t be more reputable. The first one is from the service you’ll find looking after the masses at most public gatherings, including sporting events and festivals – St John Ambulance.

Yep, this crew has seen it all: from nasty cuts to severe injuries, so you can bet that the first-aid staff from St John have it covered.

And they’ve created an app that’s easy to understand, which is ideal for those stressful situations, and comprehensive, covering everything from broken limbs to bites and stings.

The app is the digital summation of over 125 years of first aid and paramedic knowledge, and while it won’t ever be a replacement for a full first-aid course, it may just safe a life. It’s yours free of charge for Apple and Android devices.

The second app off the ranks is from an every bit as reputable source – the Australian Red Cross.

The Australian Red Cross First Aid App is a comprehensive guide to first aid and CPR, and will help you or your friends in case of emergency only. It’s also a bit of fun, too, with quizzes and games to help you learn first aid and keep your new-found knowledge sharp. The instructions are clear, concise and often accompanied by quick how-to videos and images.

The First Aid App is also available free for Apple and Android devices.

Neither app is intended to replace first-aid training, as both are intended for emergency use only. They’re ideal for anyone about to holiday far from home (or civilisation) and will help you be prepared for most medical issues. They both have all the contact details you’ll need should you require emergency assistance.
