Your smartphone is listening to you

Ever felt as if your smartphone is listening to your conversations? Well, you’re not going crazy. Drew shows you how to disallow your smartphone apps from listening to you.

No matter whether you use an iPhone or Android device, your settings currently allow apps on your smartphone to listen in to your conversations. Follow the steps below to fix your settings.

iPhone – Turn off Siri
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Siri & Search.
3. Next to ‘Listen for ‘Hey, Siri’, toggle the switch to OFF (white).
4. Next to ‘Press Side Button for Siri’, toggle the switch to OFF (white).

iPhone – All apps
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Privacy.
3. Tap Microphone.
4. Next to each app listed, toggle the switch to OFF (white).

Android – Turn off OK Google
1. Open Settings on your phone and enter the Google category.
2. Select Search under Services.
3. Next, tap Voice.
4. You’ll see a Voice Match entry; this may also be listed as ‘OK Google’ detection. Tap that.
5. Disable the Say ‘Ok Google’ any time slider. You should also disable ‘While driving’ to prevent it in Google Maps and Android Auto.

Revoke Google’s Access to Your Microphone
1. Open Settings on your phone and tap Apps & notifications.
2. Tap ‘See all X apps’ to get a full list.
3. Scroll down to Google and select it.
4. Tap Permissions and disable the Microphone slider.
