Surprising find at Bunnings: How this local scored a ‘rare’ plant for a steal!

Green thumbs and plant lovers, gather around for a tale of botanical bargain hunting that might just inspire your next trip to the local hardware store. It’s a story that proves patience and a keen eye can lead to the discovery of a horticultural treasure amidst the aisles of potting mix and garden tools.

In a recent stroke of luck, a plant enthusiast stumbled upon what can only be described as a gardener’s jackpot at her local Bunnings Warehouse.

With a keen eye and a passion for foliage, the woman found a ‘huge’ and ‘rare’ Thai constellation monstera priced at $200. For those in the know, this is a find that would make any houseplant collector’s heart skip a beat.

The Thai constellation monstera, known for its stunning variegated leaves that resemble a starry night, is a variety that has plant lovers charged with anticipation. It’s not just the beauty of its leaves that makes it so desirable, but also its rarity.

This particular species has become a statement piece in the homes of the plant-obsessed, and finding one at such a size for this price is akin to striking gold.

The woman’s discovery quickly made waves online, with fellow plant lovers expressing their awe and curiosity. ‘OMG, that’s massive,’ exclaimed one commenter, while another eagerly inquired, ‘Which Bunnings?!’

The excitement was palpable, with others sharing their own experiences of nurturing these leafy giants as they grow to impressive proportions, often reaching tree size in domestic settings.

‘They grow [so] big though. I struggle to find homes for them as they grow into huge plants. Would love to see what everyone on here does with theirs as they grow tree-size,’ said one commenter.

Meanwhile, previous posts across social media show other plant lovers who also luckily took home a Thai constellation monstera plant from Bunnings—albeit not as ‘huge’ as the woman’s recent discovery.

Jarryd Kelly, curator manager for the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, weighed in on the phenomenon, confirming the high demand for the monstera Thai constellation.

‘The monstera Thai constellation is rare in a sense,’ he told Yahoo, noting that ‘while the species Monstera deliciosa is quite common, the variegated version is not,’ making it a coveted item among houseplant enthusiasts.

Kelly also pointed out that mass production has led to increased availability and more affordable prices, which is good news for those looking to add this beauty to their collection without breaking the bank.

The popularity of these plants is so great that Bunnings had to take extra security measures. In a statement to Yahoo, a spokesperson for the retail giant revealed that some of these prized plants had mysteriously ‘disappeared’ from their O’Connor store in Western Australia.

To prevent further unsanctioned ‘wanderings’, the remaining plants were encased in a special cage, ensuring that customers who legitimately purchase them can enjoy their exotic addition.

Whether you’re a seasoned horticulturist or a budding green thumb, the quest for rare and beautiful plants can be a rewarding pursuit that brings a touch of nature’s splendour into your home.

So, next time you’re meandering through the garden section of your local Bunnings, keep your eyes peeled—you never know what ‘rare’ find might be waiting for you.
