Damper is one of Australia’s great staple foods, eaten for many years in the bush. Drew shares with us his delicious damper recipe that can be enjoyed anywhere.
2 cups self-raising flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of butter
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 1/2 cups of milk
Preheat the over to 220c (400f)
Combine the sugar, salt and flour into a bowl and then add the butter. Slowly add the milk combining it with the dry ingredients as you pour it in until all the milk is used. Knead the dough for 2 minutes and shape it into a flat ball.
Place the dough onto a greased and floured over tray and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Serve hot with butter, cockie’s joy (golden syrup) or jam, this will go down a treat!
